HIPHOP -DISC 1 REVIEW QUOTES: If you've ever seen Shaft's Big Score and you remember the scene at Mother Ike's nightclub, then you have a good idea of what this sample CD is like. Whether you want to get your groove on or just get it on, this collection of smooth, saucy samples and luscious loops is it. Each disc in the Abstract Hip Hop package is loaded with an incredible selection of top-notch material. The inspiration kits sound like choice passages from a finished album, and the grooves are so good that you have to wonder why YMC didn't just make their own record from this stuff instead of sharing it with the world on a sample CD. Groove Armada and DJ Krush could only dream of concocting beats this fresh. The instrumental sounds featured on the discs consist largely of acoustic drum kits, electric pianos, jazzy guitars, electric bass, horns, and strings-think early-'70s funk and soul with a modern rhythmic feel. It's an intoxicating concoction that will keep your head spinning for many months to come." -Rating 5 out of 5! REMIX (US) "Apparently, e-Lab have supplied a serious number of samples for Reason, and this is reflected in the quality of this release. It's an all-encompassing hip-hop affair that kicks off with a selection of slick construction kits. The drum loops are the real stars, as they really veer off the mainstream path at times. There are even a few latin style loops to enjoy, and the production is excellent. In the midst of these are music loops, vocals and FX, jazzy basses and single drum hits. Consider the fact that the .wav CD features an extra 250Mb of content and you've got a winner" -9 Stars out of 10 -Computer Music (UK) "The
front cover of this elegantly packaged and presented two-CD set promises
"deep vibey turntable phunk", which actually is as good a way as any to
describe a gloriously laid-back collection of slow-burning loops and grooves.
The retro vibe is kept alive with obvious vinyl trickery, such as interesting
lo-fi granulisation and scratchy record effects, but the producer's lovingly
crafted sound gives a warmth and depth that makes many other sample CDs
(and particularly some sound modules) seem clinical and soulless. Pushing
the envelope at almost every turn, Abstract HipHop offers the familiar
alongside the experimental in a neat and highly polished musical package.
All in all, Abstract HipHop deserves to be a firm favourite with those
who like their beats laid back, funky and lovingly constructed" -Sound
